Effect of ionic diffusion on microscale electrohydrodynamic conduction pumps

چکیده

In this work, we investigate microscale electrohydrodynamic (EHD) conduction pumps of dielectric liquids in a wide working regime range from the Ohmic to saturation regime. We show that electric force EHD differs macroscale owing scale effect. reveal effect is triggered by enhanced ionic diffusion. When characteristic length system reduces millimeter micrometer, maximum order magnitude α increases O(10−5) O(10−1), resulting significantly diffusion; however, diffusion can be neglected for pumps, where denotes ratio velocity migration velocity. found existing theoretical models do not work due rough estimation heterocharge layer thickness. thickness only depends on but also relies By modifying expression with respect and diffusion, develop model dimensionless pumps.

Self-powered microscale pumps based on analyte-initiated depolymerization reactions.

Microscale pumps that are simultaneously capable of turning “on” in response to specific analytes in solution and of providing precise control over flow rate will be needed for certain types of smart microand nanoscale devices. Access to these types of pumps, however, has remained limited. Two general approaches for designing microscale pumps have been proposed: 1) those that are turned on and ...

TOPICAL REVIEW Diffusion and Ionic Conduction in Nanocrystalline Ceramics

We review case studies of diffusion in nanocrystalline ceramics, i. e. polycrystalline non-metallic materials with average grain sizes typically in the range from 5 nm to 50 nm. The experimental methods applied are on the one hand tracer diffusion or conductivity methods which are sensitive to macroscopic transport, on the other hand NMR techniques which, complementarily to the previous ones, g...

STUDIES ON THE DIFFUSION EFFECT UPON IONIC DISTRIBUTION II. EXPEI~TMa~.NTS ON IONIC ACCUMULATION BY

Across a permeable boundary m there was supposed to be present a constant difference in concentration of either the cation D + or the anion A-. The maintenance of this condition, accomplished, for example, by a continuous addition of the substance DA to the rather small volume (i), causes DA to act as a "diffusion agent" which steadily diffuses across m into the part (o). In (o) a fixed, consta...
